Dr Benjamin Robertson
Consultant Craniofacial & Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
BDSc(HONS), MBBS, PGDiP OMS, FRACDS (OMS), FRCS (OMFS)
Ben is a dual qualified Specialist Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has a special expertise in managing Complex Facial Deformity & Orthognathic Surgery, Congenital and Acquired Facial Reconstruction, Paediatric Maxillofacial, Craniofacial Surgery & Skull Base Reconstruction, along with Complex Bone Grafting and Dental Implantology.
Born and raised in Brisbane, he completed his undergraduate dental degree at the University of Queensland with First Class Honours in 2002. After practising general dentistry on the Gold Coast for two years, he was selected to the prestigious Melbourne Oral & Maxillofacial Training Programme in 2005, graduating medical school from the University of Melbourne in 2008. He completed his advanced maxillofacial surgery training in 2013 rotating between Melbourne and Brisbane. This resulted in attainment of his Specialist Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Ben was then successful in undertaking the prestigious Royal Melbourne Hospital Dentofacial Deformity and Orthognathic Surgery Fellowship in 2014. At the end of 2014, Ben relocated to Liverpool, UK to undertake his Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship, at the world-renowned Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Supra-Regional Craniofacial Unit – one of the busiest tertiary referral craniofacial units in the world. He was appointed as a Consultant here in January 2016 and was dually responsible for the running of this Unit until January 2020 when he returned to Brisbane during the global pandemic.
Whilst a surgical fellow in England in 2015, Ben was successful in attaining his full Specialist Fellowship in OMFS with the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Also during his time in Liverpool, he was awarded specialist registration with the General Medical Council – one of the very few overseas trained maxillofacial surgeons to achieve this.
In 2021, Ben returned to the United Kingdom for his family, where he was appointed to the prestigious Kings College Hospital, London. He again specialised in Craniofacial Surgery (serving as clinical lead for this service), Paediatric Maxillofacial and another of his passions – Complex Facial Deformity Surgery.
Due to his craniofacial experience and expertise, he was also a core member of the Kings College Skull Base Surgery Unit undertaking complex craniofacial and skull base resections and reconstructions.
Ben was additionally responsible for the development, and was the lead of, the OMFS Complex Orbital Clinic routinely combining his skills alongside his oculoplastic and neurosurgical colleagues.
One of his proudest achievements was the development of the Complex Dental Implantology Clinic, a multi-disciplinary team devoted to complex dental implantology and dental rehabilitation, bone grafting and sinus lift procedures.
Ben has returned to Brisbane with his family to practice alongside Dr Michael Burgess and colleagues at Brisbane Face and Jaw Surgery.
